WHAT IS ACT UP?

Back for its 10th anniversary, ACT UP! 2024 is a interstate event showcasing secondary schools from ACT and regional NSW. This year Canberra Theatre Centre has partnered with NIDA Australian Theatre Live and Slingsby Theatre Company to elevate each participant’s experience and connection with the Australian arts industry.

Students are provided with a stimulus that they explore in class with their teacher. This inspires a 5–10-minute original performance created in class.

There are many enrichment experiences included for both teachers and students. Some of these include incursion workshops with our ACT UP! industry teaching artists; a Teacher Professional Learning workshop at Canberra Theatre Centre (including dinner and a show!); and an acting workshop with a NIDA artist.

Student stage managers are selected from your school to attend a one-day workshop with an industry stage manager. On show day, they call the performance, which will be staged in The Playhouse at Canberra Theatre Centre.
