– 10TH ANNIVERSARY SHOWCASE –
Back for its 10th anniversary, ACT UP! 2024 is a student fringe event showcasing secondary schools from ACT and regional NSW.
Students are provided with a stimulus that they explore in class with their teacher. They then create a 5-10 minute original performance in response to the stimulus. They are visited in school by our ACT UP! industry teaching artists, while teachers get the opportunity to participate in Professional Learning. Student stage managers are selected to call the performance, which will be staged in The Playhouse at Canberra Theatre Centre (CTC).
There are some exciting new additions included for student participants:
- Ticket to ACT UP!
- Access to recorded performances from professional Australian theatre companies (the festival stimulus)
- Theatre workshop at CTC with special industry guests (TBA)
- Incursions with industry teaching artists
- Specialised workshop at CTC for student stage managers
- Ticket to The River That Ran Uphill
All incursions dates can be decided by your school. All additional workshops and performance included will take place on the day of your ACT UP! technical rehearsal, so you only have to make one trip away from school for an excellent experience!

ABOUT LAST YEAR…
ACT UP! 2023 was a curated series of original short performances created by student artists from high schools and colleges across Canberra and the region. Each year with ACT UP! we aim to strike a balance between challenging students to create truly extraordinary work, and providing a supportive and inclusive environment for students to explore their creative practice.
