The precinct surrounding Canberra Theatre Centre and the ACT Legislative Assembly will undergo development from the middle of 2017 by the Capital Property Group (Canberra Airport and Denman Prospect). The $300 million development, Constitution Place, expects completion in 2020.

Capital Property Group Managing Director Stephen Byron said the 9000sqm site would accommodate 20,000sqm of offices for the ACT Government over five stories, as well as 20,000sqm of 12 storey commercial accommodation, and the new Adina Apartment Hotel Grand Canberra.

“The project embraces environmentally-sustainable design as a cornerstone of the approach and we will be working towards delivering the first WELL rated building in Canberra.” Byron said.

“WELL is focused on the people within the building and looks at the impact of everything from the food in the cafe to fitness regimes and amenities. The building will be five star NABERS energy rated and we’ve committed to a 200kw roof-mounted solar array to reduce the building’s carbon footprint.

“There’ll be a gym, child care, cafes and restuarants to guarantee a high level of amenity for all occupants, and the current outdoor car park for 225 cars will be replaced by a three level underground carpark for almost 600 cars.”

A retail laneway between the two buildings is also planned, connecting Constitution Avenue with the Canberra Theatre Centre, as well as a variety of dynamic public spaces.
