MAKS Ballet Studios loves to wrap up the year with something from the realms of fantasy!
Featuring professionally choreographed routines from our talented faculty, stunning costumes and hosted in Canberra’s most prestigious theatre, Canberra Theatre Centre, you will be transported to the fictitious middle-eastern city of Agrabah in Genie and The Magic Lamp’ before being amazed by the vibrancy of our second Act Showcase’.

ACT 1

Jafar, yearning to become the Sultan of Agrabah, enlists local street urchin, Aladdin, to help him obtain a magic lamp from the mysterious 'Cave of Wonders'. In an amazing turn of fate, Aladdin meets the Sultan of Agrabah’s daughter, Princess Jasmine, who is covertly attempting to escape the Palace. Princess Jasmine soon finds herself endeared by Aladdin. Aladdin is tricked by Jafar and his pet parrot Iago, who attempt to trap him in the cave. Inside the cave, Aladdin and his pet monkey, Abu, find many splendors and they can tell that magic surrounds them. They discover a lamp and find that inside the lamp lives a magical Genie whom they befriend. With the help of a Magic Carpet they escape the cave with the lamp, and the Genie grants Aladdin three wishes. When he returns to Agrabah as Prince Ali, Jasmine falls in love with him. He manages to trap Jafar in the lamp and frees Genie with his final wish. Realising Aladdin’s and Jasmine's love for each other, the Sultan allows them to marry.

ACT 2

The fun continues with MAKS Ballet Studios’ ‘Showcase. With pieces of all different genres choreographed by the talented faculty, our students come together in a dazzling performance demonstrating their passion, dedication and artistry. The result is an enthralling exhibition, exploring several different styles of dance.
