British prodigy and clarinettist extraordinaire Julian Bliss returns to Australia with New Zealand’s leading piano trio and ‘masters of the musical mix’ NZTrio. Together they present TIMELIGHT, a programme of chamber music both vibrant and profound at Canberra Theatre Centre on August 28th.
At the heart of this collaboration is Messiaen’s masterpiece Quartet for the End of Time, a work full of life, wit and virtuosity – at odds with the composer’s setting at the time of writing – a German prisoner of war camp.
John Psathas’ Island Songs and Ross Harris’ There May Be Light are a colourful and evocative match bringing flavours of Australiasia to this evening of ensemble brilliance.
“It was an evening of perfect musical bliss” The Christchurch Press
“a superb concert – cleverly constructed, beautifully balanced and wonderfully well played… [it] transcended mere music making” Dominion Post
