Go to Akram Khan Company’s Jungle Book reimagined

2–3 February 2024

The world-renowned Akram Khan Company presents a magical dance-theatre retelling of Kipling’s classic in Canberra for their Australian premiere season.

Witness one of the world’s most acclaimed international dance companies turn the stage into a mythical world with spectacular movement and stunning stagecraft. This is the only chance to see this “engaging, sobering, transfixing and hopeful” (The Sunday National) work on the east coast of Australia. Jungle Book reimagined follows the journey of Mowlgi, through the eyes of a refugee caught in a world devastated by the impact of climate change. Arriving alone in a deserted modern city, and with wild animals claiming the streets as their own, the child soon discovers unlikely allies in this strange new jungle. Featuring an original score, ten international dancers and state-of-the-art animation and visuals, Jungle Book reimagined is a beautifully compelling and vital piece of storytelling about our intrinsic need to belong and bond with others, and placing the importance of connecting with and respecting our natural world at its heart. ★★★★★ “Jungle Book: Reimagined feels like a blockbuster cinematic experience with a powerful message for us all. It’s truly exceptional.” – The Stage ★★★★ “Khan’s choreography puts the Kaa in Kathak!
